For three days, school principals across the country are making themselves available to parents to answer questions about their children’s education through a free, anonymous hotline.
The nation’s elementary school principals have gathered in Anaheim and manned phones and computer terminals in the 14th year that the National Association of Elementary School Principals is fielding questions on reading, discipline, learning difficulties and any other subject chosen by callers. Members of the National Association of School Psychologists will provide specialized help.
The hotline provides “advice, innovative ideas and helpful suggestions to parents, grandparents, teachers and anyone else with an education- or child-related question,” according to the association’s Web site.
Popular topics include how much homework a student should be doing, school safety and getting more involved in a child’s education.
The hotline opened Sunday and will be open today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The number is (800) 944-1601. Translators will be available for Spanish speakers.
E-mail can be sent from a link at the NAESP’s Web site, www.naesp.org, during the allotted hours.
