Downed tree branches on Park Hill, just northwest of downtown Hollister, created some concern this week from a local resident for a potential fire hazard.

City street maintenance official Marcelo Orta, though, noted how city crews had been cutting down dead trees in the area when rainy weather hit recently, causing a delay.

“It’s just too slippery for us to continue up there with soft soils,” Orta said. “Some old trees came down from just being dead.”

He said the rain caught crews by surprise and he noted that they will continue to do the work and get it cleaned up when the soil dries out a bit.
