Planned dip creates large obstacle when it rains

With all the rain dumped on Hollister this week, a notorious catch basin quickly became a large pool of water on Memorial Drive just north of Sunnyslope Drive near Veterans Memorial Park.

The catch basin was designed that way with the road construction on Memorial Drive, according to city officials. But city officials have recognized the problem and are using some of the funds recently received from the federal stimulus package to do overlay work on Memorial Drive – along with repairs to that catch basin, said David Rubcik, civil engineer for Hollister.

Especially when it rains so much as it did this week, the large pool of water allows for a lot less space for drivers, who are forced to either maneuver around the spot or plow through the water, neither option being ideal.

That slate of overlay and storm drainage repairs should be under construction at the end of the winter season, Rubcik noted.
