Union Pacific this week was continuing work on railroad sections in Hollister, this time at Fourth Street, causing its closure near the crossing.

U.P. planned to do nearly $2 million in improvements in the Hollister area, a city engineering official had announced last month. So far, the company has done work at Hudner Lane, Wright Road, Third Street, Second Street and East Street.

It is working on Fourth Street and from there plans to move on to do South Street on March 7 and March 8. Much of the work involves replacement of rail ties and concrete panels. The city is performing some paving along with it as well, while the county and city will assist each other with paving and manpower on their respective portions of the line.

There are detours set up in those areas. For more information, e-mail engineering official David Rubcic at [email protected].
