A resident recently informed the Pinnacle about a concern regarding an incomplete walkway in the 1300 block of Marne Drive.

It is a cement pathway that leads toward a hole in a fence, which is next to a small park section across Memorial Drive from the main area of Veterans Memorial Park.

The resident described how you have to jump over a drain ditch and climb through the ripped chain-linked fence. The portion of the fence is getting torn down every so often, causing the city to have to replace it.

Public works official Marcelo Orta said there are “a lot of issues with that” and noted how it has been a problem for eight or nine years.

At one point, the walkway had been a “sales pitch” for the subdivision. But the city and county decided to close it off from the park using the fence.

Orta said he is “tired” of having to replace the fence and surmised that the problem is due to vandals using the area as an escape route when being chased by police.

His next suggestion if the problem persists is to install a wrought-iron fence, he said.
