It might have a pretty name, but it’s severely lacking in the looks department. One of the most unpleasant rides in town can be found on Sally Street, where a series of a half-dozen small craters between Hawkins Street and Nash Road particularly underscore the needed repairs.

Sally Street is a residential road largely surrounded by homes but also neighbored by the San Benito Foods tomato cannery and a few other fine establishments. It also happens to be one of the longest, continuing thoroughfares in the city.

Though city officials overseeing street work could not be reached before press time, they routinely have responded to Public Works-featured potholes in the past. A streets official has noted how crews take down a list each week and go out on Fridays to fill the most recent potholes. It appears as though Sally Street is often visited, too, because there are many marks left over from repairs.

City crews, however, might be a bit busy these days with their efforts to fill potholes in Hollister because a lot of rainfall – between two and three inches fell in the city during the storm – has been proven to amplify the problem on rickety roads.
