Garbage can at park and ride needs emptying – bad

If you ride the bus at the Memorial Drive park and ride, you probably have had quite a difficult time tossing anything in the trash can there for the past couple of weeks because there’s no room.

The overflowing heap of trash is located right next to the bus stop near Hillcrest and Memorial roads, neighboring the corner of Veterans Memorial Park. As shown in the photo, it looks as though many residents took on the challenge of filling the rusted, sky blue trash can beyond what’s allowed by the laws of physics.

The result of the lacking cleanup is a long-standing mess sculpted with the likes of an aged newspaper, a crumpled bag of Ruffles, an empty box of Marlboro reds and a tied plastic bag filled with something left to the imagination. The overflow has resulted in several pieces of garbage being left outside the bin as well.

Both the City of Hollister and San Benito County public works departments are responsible for such upkeep. In this case at this particular location, it’s up to the county, and the official who oversees the duties could not be reached before press time. The Pinnacle will check back to see when the trash can gets emptied.
