The California High-Speed Rail Authority will pay to study a covered trench design for a track alignment in Gilroy, said City Councilman Perry Woodward, who attended a CHSRA board of directors meeting Thursday in Sacramento.
The CHSRA currently is looking at two possible locations for a rail station in Gilroy – downtown and east of U.S. Highway 101.
Woodward has said he would like to see the station built downtown as long as the tracks were trenched.
The City of Gilroy will host a community workshop Monday night to introduce residents to a high-speed rail visioning project meant to weigh the pros and cons of two station options in the city.
The workshop, “Project Overview and Key Issues,” will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Gilroy Senior Center, located at 7371 Hanna Street. The visioning project is intended to gather residents’ thoughts on the two potential locations for a high-speed rail station.
