Don’t put away that umbrella just yet, as more rain is expected to hit Hollister this week. There’s also a wind advisory in effect for higher altitudes in the area from today through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
Recent rainfall wreaked havoc on the region in previous weeks, causing San Benito County to declare a local emergency due to flooding in the Lovers Lane area. Not long after, Gov. Jerry Brown proclaimed a State of Emergency for the county on Jan. 23.
Rain is expected to start Wednesday night as another storm system moves through the area, according to National Weather Service Forecaster Anna Schneider.
Rain should commence Wednesday night with periods of rain expected through Friday, Schneider said.
Hollister should receive three-fourths of an inch of rain from Wednesday night through Saturday morning. Rain is expected to be heaviest on Thursday morning, Schneider said.
Although the county is still tallying costs, the recent storms have caused significant damage to local roads and bridges. The compromised bridge on San Felipe Road needs to be replaced, which is expected to be a $2 million project.
While the recent rainfall caused problems for the local region, it was beneficial to local reservoirs. Data from the California Department of Water Resources revealed the nearby San Luis Reservoir was at 80 percent of its total capacity as of Jan. 26.
Additionally, the Hernandez Reservoir in the county was about 40 percent full.
