An Oct. 12 profile of Hollister Parks Supervisor Marcelo Orta explored all the tasks the small department staff tackles in a week and the challenges they face with a small crew. One of the many projects mentioned in the article was maintenance around city sound walls.

Shortly after the article appeared, a group of realtors from Intero Real Estate Services offered to work with city staff on a Saturday morning clean up along the Hillcrest sound wall. The realtors showed up Oct. 20 at 8 a.m., ready to work and the city provided trucks to take away all the debris. City maintenance worker Juan Lopez trimmed down over-grown hedges while the realtors raked up dead branches and leaves, loading them into the back of trucks.

Some of those who volunteered included Mike Biechman, Monica Weltz, John Kunz and Frank Sepulveda.
