Recent college graduates
Hollister’s Patrick Hanson received a bachelor’s in computer information systems at Norwhich University’s Commencement May 11.

Norwich University, in Northfield, Vt., is an academic institution that educates traditional-age students in a Corps of Cadets, as civilians and as adult students. It’s the oldest private military college in the United States and is the birth place of the Reserve Officer’s Training Corps.

Melissa Egan graduated from Pomona College with a bachelor’s in computer science May 18.

While in college, Egan was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She is a 1999 graduate of Monterey High School. She is the daughter of James W. Egan Jr. of Hollister and Katharine T. Egan of Monterey.

Pomona College, in Claremont, Calif., is a liberal arts college, and offers a comprehensive curriculum and small classes.

Eight students from San Benito County received diplomas from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo at the June 14 commencement ceremonies. Cal Poly recognized about 3,540 candidates for diplomas this spring.

The following students earned Bachelor of Science diplomas: Adam Brinkman in mechanical engineering, Fernando Flores Jr. in computer science, Tracy Hutson in psychology, Gayle Knutzen in aerospace engineering and Mildred Villalobos in industrial engineering, all of Hollister; and Ryan Doglione in agricultural business and Shannon Renz in agricultural business, both of Tres Pinos. Tres Pinos native Allison Renz earned a Master of Science in agriculture.

Cal Poly alumnus and National Baseball Hall of Fame legend Osborne Earl “Ozzie” Smith delivered the featured address.

Terra Chaffee has graduated from the Santa Clara University School of Law. Chaffee received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from the university in 2000 and decided to get a degree in law. She is currently studying for the California State Bar Exam.

Chaffee is a 1996 San Benito High School graduate. She is the daughter of Dolores Chaffee of Hollister.

She also earned a certificate in public interest law for her work in that area at the East San Jose Community Law Center.
