Robert James Dyer (RJ)January 7, 1933 - March 8, 2016

The Dyer Family invites you to join them for RJ’s Going Away Party, April 10, 2016, at 4:00 P.M., Eagle Ridge Country Club, 2951 Club Drive, Gilroy, CA 95020.
Bob Dyer, known to many as “RJ”, passed away peacefully, on March 8th, 2016, at the age of 83.
Bob did not like to lose a battle. And he truly believed this was his final victory. He was a Christian who looked forward to eternity with his Savior . . . but heaven better brace itself for RJ.
Bob proudly served his country from 1956 to 1977. In July of 1977, he turned down a promotion to Full-Bird Colonel and retired as a Lt. Colonel to start a new career.
Moving his family to Gilroy, he quickly became a key figure in the community and played an important role in the real estate development of Gilroy, including the development of Eagle Ridge and the Hecker Pass Plaza.
He was a respected member of the Chamber of Commerce, Elks Lodge, and the Rotary Club. He was also instrumental in the formation of the Gilroy Garlic Festival and the Gilroy Foundation.
Bob was well known for his philanthropic support  and generosity to several local charities. He is forever woven into the tapestry that is Gilroy.
Bob had a real passion for living life to the fullest; whether it was running with the bulls in Pamplona, attacking a ski slope in Austria, or attending five 49er Super Bowls, he was one dynamic force. But his real driving force and passion was his family. He was a devoted and loving father whose family was at the center of his goals and accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Vanni-Dyer; his four children: Rick, Loni, Michael, and Maura, and his sister, Deanna Alexander of Arlington, TX. He was also a loving “Papa” to his 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by Carol Dyer, his first wife and the mother of his children,.
The family thanks the staff at St. Louise Hospital for the loving care and kindness they gave him in his final days.
