Ronald Ross has been appointed as acting agriculture commissioner in the wake of Paul Matulich’s recent passing.

County supervisors Tuesday approved the appointment, effective immediately. Ross has been employed with the agriculture commissioner’s office since October 1988 and most recently served as deputy agricultural commissioner, according to the county.

Board members at this point have not discussed how they will proceed in permanently filling the role, Supervisor Reb Monaco said. He noted how serving in the agriculture commissioner position requires certifications in several areas.

“And Ron has all those certifications,” Monaco said. “He’s acting agriculture commissioner, and then we’ll have further discussions.”

Ross could not be reached immediately.
