Police say a Salinas woman with medical problems was swindled out of nearly $5,000 by a “healer” named Senora Luba.

The woman says she found Senora Luba’s business card outside a Salinas business and she contacted the woman, whose card promised help with physical ailments.

Police Cmdr. Terry Heffington says people in Latin American countries can’t afford doctors so they rely on healers, known as curanderos.

Investigators say Senora Luba told the Salinas woman to bring nearly $5,000 to a residence, where a brief prayer session was held. When the woman showed up for subsequent sessions, she learned the healer had moved away and the phone was disconnected.
