Marissa Estrada gets a hug from her mother Imelda after the San Andreas High School graduation ceremony Thursday outside the Veteran's Memorial Building.

For the students of San Andreas Continuation School, today was a day of white graduation gowns, flowered leis and diplomas.
“It’s pretty exciting,” said graduate Riley Huerto. “It’s been a long road here.”
Huerto was one of 60 graduates who walked across the stage in a graduation held at the Veterans Memorial Building and took the first steps toward his post-high school life.
In many cases, the students at this graduation were the first in their families to walk across a stage and come home with a high school diploma.
“I’m pretty excited and nervous at the same time,” said graduate Iban Perez. “It means a lot to my family.”
Today, Perez was the first in his family to graduate from high school. When he stepped outside of the building, his mother gave him a big hug. Perez spent the last year at San Andreas Continuation School and now he’s planning to go to a trade school where he will learn to be an electrician.
Guest speakers included San Benito County Superintendent Mike Sanchez and San Benito County Board of Education Vice President Mitchell Dabo.
“Tomorrow when you wake up, set some very high goals because tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life,” said Dabo.
Check back soon for more about the graduation.
