The San Benito County Fair recognized how the economy has hurt attendance and is responding this year with some new promotions, including a Fair Family Package for two adults and two children.
The 88th annual county fair at Bolado Park in Tres Pinos is set to run Friday through Sunday.
There are an array of promotions this year, including the Fair Family Package that includes passes for two adults and two children, along with parking, for just $15. There also is a Kids Day on Friday (12 and under are free), as well as Military Day and Seniors Day on Saturday. Residents with a military I.D. will get in free, while senior tickets are $4.
The regular admission at this year’s fair is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for children ages 6 to 12, while parking is $4. Last year’s fair drew about 18,000 people, Fair Manager Kelley Ferreira said.
Among some of the highlights this year, the fourth annual mud drags event is scheduled to move from Sunday to Friday, starting at 7 p.m., and the popular truck pulls are at 4 p.m. Saturday.
The fair also brought back the wine tasting event for Friday, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with local restaurant and wineries serving, and tickets going for $40 each or $70 for two.
The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. The carnival opens at noon each day. Pre-sale tickets are available at the county fair office, the chamber of commerce, Ace Hardware, La Hearne and Postal Graphics, with savings of up to 15 percent through Thursday.
