San Benito High School teacher Andrea Walton is again holding informational meetings for a spring break trip that has become a tradition. Last year students toured London and France, visiting sites that played an historical role in World War II. This year students will have a chance to tour seven cities on a trip to Italy and Greece.

Heather Lanning, a senior, went on the trip last year.

“I wanted to see what it is like in other countries,” she said, of her junior year trip. “I wanted to go to London.”

The students traveled with Walton, other teachers and parent chaperones on a trip that took them from London to Normandy to Paris, with a few other stops included along the way.

Lanning said her favorite part of the trip was seeing the queen of England. One day when they were walking around London, the queen’s motorcade passed by and the students got to see her waving from the car.

Lanning said everything was different in Europe from what she is used to in the United States.

“They should go experience it and once they are over there and come back, they will want to continue to travel,” Lanning said, of other students who might be interested in this year’s trip.

The next place she wants to travel overseas is Italy.

Laura Guardian, another senior, said she wanted to go on the trip because she has been studying French.

“I wanted to visit and see the culture and stuff,” she said.

Her favorite part of the trip was meeting people and visiting the monuments. She also had a chance to use her French language skills when she asked for directions or how much it would cost for items she wanted to purchase.

She appreciated the chance to travel overseas for the first time with a group.

“That was actually an advantage,” she said. “One of the teachers spoke French, and Ms. Walton had already traveled.”

Guardian said her favorite food on the trip were crepes.

“It was really exciting to go there and I did have a lot of fun,” she said. “I like trying new things so it was a great experience. I would say it was worth going there and the money and stuff.”
