Science projects ranged from experiments with rocketry to the effect of sunlight on plant growth. Social studies projects included biographical portraits of Dr. Seuss, Harriet Tubman and Susan B. “The Faire is a chance for our students to visually display their academic achievements to their parents and our community,” said Hallie Shepherd, a teacher and San Juan Faire chairperson. “It’s a positive experience for our kids and parents, alike.”

Students in grades sixth, seventh and eighth are required to do a project for the Faire. Sixth-grade students complete a science project. Students in seventh and eighth grade can choose between a science or social studies project, as long as they complete a social studies project in one of the two years.

The science projects were judged by Joey Canepa, Monica Guaracha, Patrick Brown and Joyce Hill. Sharry Jones and San Juan School staff members judged the social studies projects. The first-place winners of the science projects competed in the San Benito County Science Faire on March 30.
