Officials with the San Benito County Coroner’s Office have not released names of fatal victims in Saturday’s early-morning accident on Highway 156 because the next of kin had not been notified, an office spokesman said this afternoon.

A Hollister man and a King City man were killed in a head-on collision Saturday morning on Highway 156, while five other occupants in one of the vehicles suffered injuries and had to be airlifted to various hospitals, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol.

The coroner’s office – under the sheriff’s authority – has not been able to identify the King City man, let alone possible family members, said sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Roy Iler. He added that he didn’t believe the Hollister man’s family had been officially informed yet.

“I don’t think either of them have been notified yet as far as I know,” Iler said, noting how the King City man is a migrant worker and his body had been transported to the Monterey County morgue, and booked in as a John Doe, for an autopsy Tuesday.

According to the CHP, the 47-year-old Hollister man and a King City man of an unknown age were killed when a van collided with a 1997 Chevy pick-up truck just outside of Hollister shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday.
