A local election official called the turnout for today’s special election “horrible.”
“It’s been very low,” said San Benito County Clerk Joe Paul Gonzalez. “It’s been very slow at the polls.”
He added that he has visited the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Aromas and the San Juan School polling places today. Gonzalez said “the San Juan (location) was quite active.”
However, he said that the Hollister locations have been “very slow.”
The election is for six propositions, three of which will be in attempt to balance the state budget. Included in those measure are 1A, which would limit state spending and increase “rainy day” funds; and 1B, which would help funding for education.
Although Gonzalez said there have been “no issues” with this election, the only concern has been over the change of polling places for certain areas.
“The only issue is that we’ve consolidated precincts. So that means there are less polling locations,” he said.
Gonzalez said that people who have used the R.O. Hardin Elementary School polling place in the past now have to vote at Dunne Park.
