San Benito County’s foreclosure rate in February increased by 6 percent over the prior month and 58 percent over the same period in 2008.

There were 150 homes in foreclosure, which comes to one out of every 119 in San Benito County, giving the area the 10th-worst rate in California. Of those 150 properties, 81 of their owners received notices of default, while the rest were later along in the process.

In California for February – the state with the third-worst per capita rate in the country – there were nearly 81,000 homes in foreclosure, a 5 percent increase over January.
