The San Benito County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved the hiring of a new county counsel, Matthew Granger, who previously worked as city attorney for the City of Lompoc.

Supervisors approved the hiring of Granger to succeed Dennis LeClere, who retired last year.

The county hired an executive search firm to conduct the recruitment and received more than 40 applicants, according to a press release from the county administrative office.

Granger has more than 20 years of experience practicing law.

“There are many critical issues facing the county and we are confident [Granger] will be successful in leading our county leagal team in addressing them,” said County Administrative Officer Susan Thompson.

Granger is expected to start employment with the county July 15.
