Andres Rodriguez

A San Benito High School alumnus has been named “National Young Man of the Year” by the League of United Latin American Citizens organization.
Andres Rodriguez, 22, was a 2011 SBHS graduate. LULAC honored him during the 86th National Convention held in Salt Lake City earlier in July, according to an announcement.
Rodriguez, exposed to LULAC by his older brother Gerardo while in high school in the 1990s, has been involved with the group since age 12. He has been involved in service projects locally such as graffiti abatement, voter registration drives or toy drives for low-income families.
After high school, he received a LULAC scholarship to attend California State University, Northridge where he earned a double major in political science and Chicano studies, graduating with honors in both.
Rodriguez plans to start law school in San Francisco in the fall and hopes to run for office to represent San Benito County and eventually California, according to the announcement.
