School conducting investigation after testimony by Nancy
Polizzi, a food service attendant at San Benito
The San Benito High School food service attendant who recently testified in court about her unknowing role in a 2004 murder confirmed she has been placed on an indefinite administrative leave.

School officials are investigating the March 27 testimony Nancy Polizzi gave in the murder trial of Francisco Vega, of Fresno. In the testimony, Polizzi, of Hollister, admits to unknowingly playing a role in the 2004 killing of San Jose construction worker David Owens.

Superintendent Stan Rose has declined to comment on the case or confirm Polizzi’s job status. But in an interview with the Free Lance on Saturday, Polizzi and her husband confirmed she had been placed on the indefinite leave.

“When this first happened, its not like we were hiding it from anybody,” said Marc Polizzi, her husband. “Her supervisor and many other people at the school were aware because she told them that this had happened. At the time they didn’t do anything.

“To me, if anything, it would have been then that they would have done something. We’ve been in this community for a long time. Many people can vouch for us.”

Nancy Polizzi also has admitted in court and in an interview with the Free Lance that she supplied about $1,000 to Joseph so he and a friend could start a marijuana business.

Rose did not immediately return a phone call today seeking comment for this story.
