Derek Alter, 26, was selected by the Airline Pilots Association, International and honored for his professionalism and heroic actions during the loss of power and subsequent ditching of US Airways flight 1549 in the Hudson River.
Derek, son of former Morgan Hill resident Richard Alter and grandson of Mr. And Mrs. James Alter of Morgan Hill, was a passenger on the plane commuting to his home in Charlotte, N.C. when the place was forced to ditch in the Hudson River.
Derek, a pilot like his dad, was recognized at a banquet in Washington D.C.
Steven Larson
Army Pvt. Steven T. Larson has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.
During the nine weeks of basic combat training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons employment, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid skills, and Army history, core values and traditions.
He is the son of Kirk and Sheryl Larson of Hollister and a 2007 graduate of San Benito High School.
Melinda Roth
Melinda Roth graduated in May 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in business management and made the Dean’s Honor List in the College of Business at California State University, Chico. Roth is the daughter of Tom and Marita Roth of Morgan Hill.
Christopher Adams
Christopher Adams of Gilroy has been named to the Whitworth University Laureate Society for spring semester 2009. He qualified for the academic honor society by maintaining a grade point average of at least 3.75 during the semester.
Founded in 1890, Whitworth is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian Church.
