Mr. and Mrs. Mark Derry and Mrs. Jeanmarie Derry, of Gilroy, announce the engagement of their daughter, Shannon Ellen Derry, to Steven Casey Catalano, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Catalano, of San Ramon.
Shannon is a 2001 graduate of Notre Dame High School, Salinas. She graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University Chicago and received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in criminal justice. Currently, she works for Santa Clara County.
Steven is a 1995 graduate of California High School in San Ramon. In 2005, he received his Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts Degree from California Culinary Academy, San Francisco. He currently works at Manresa Restaurant in Los Gatos.
The couple plan to marry June 7, 2008 in Carmel.

Raul and Joanna Salcido were married Feb. 23, 2008 by Pastor Juan Salcido. Both Raul and Joanna were born and raised in Gilroy and attended local schools. They have one son, Carlos Raul Salcido, and hope to have a long lasting marriage.
HONOR
Kylie Avila
Army Pvt. Kylie M. Avila has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
She is the daughter of Sabina Montero of Hollister.

Julianna Estrella Marquez was born March 13, 2008 at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital in Hollister to parents Judy Hernandez and Sergio Marquez. She weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces.
