Steven Roberts

Army Pvt. Steven M. Roberts has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

Roberts, a 2008 graduate of Gilroy High School, is the son of Nancy Roberts and Michael Roberts, both of Gilroy.

Students honored at UC Santa Barbara

The following undergraduate students at UCSB have been selected for the Dean’s Honor List, earned by students with a 3.75 GPA on a program of 12 or more graded units in the college of letters and science, or 3.5 GPA in the college of engineering:

Leyla Angeline Vega was born Jan. 15, 2009 at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital to Frances and Allan Vega of Hollister. She weighed 7 pounds, 13.8 ounces.
