Vieira’s celebrate 59 years

It was 59 years ago a cowboy and his sweetheart were wed.

Dick Vieira and Carmen Galdos were married at Scared Heart Church in Hollister May 7, 1950. Juanita Galdos Marcus, Helen Rezendez Dietrich, Lawrence “Cocky” Rossio and Donald Marcus were their attendance.

Carmen was escorted to the altar by her brother Frank Galdos and Eddie Vieira sang “Ave Maria” for the couple. Francine Galdos-Head was the flower girl. The wedding reception was held at the Elks Lodge in Hollister for the couple, who honeymooned in Carmel.

Their first home was on The Indart Ranch at the end of Comstock Road. The Vieira’s have two children, Trish (John) Maderis, (1953) and Merri Vieira, (1955). They have three grandchildren, Dawn Merri and Julie Rae Valdez, (1976), and Richard Vieira Maderis, (1980). Dick and Carmen are proud great-grandparents of John Martin Charles Valdez, (1999).

Franklin John Portera III

Franklin John Portera III was born April 4, 2009 at Good Samaritan, San Jose to Julie and Frank Portera Jr. of Morgan Hill. He weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces.

HONORS

Stephanie Orth

Stephanie Orth has been accepted to the Combined BS/MS program at Columbia University School of Nursing in Manhattan. This three-year program is designed to prepare the student for a career as an advanced practice nurse. Stephanie has selected family nurse practitioner as her specialty.

In May, Stephanie will receive a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, with an emphasis in exercise physiology from Chapman University in Orange. Four days after graduation, she will start classes at Columbia University School of Nursing.

Stephanie is the daughter of Jeff and Barbara Orth of Gilroy.

Angel Grimaldo Esquer

LCpl Angel Grimaldo Esquer, of Hollister, recently returned from serving in Iraq, where he served seven months with the 2nd Intel Radio Bin. While serving in Iraq he was promoted to Lance Corporal. He was welcomed home with a family barbecue and his little brother Robert Emmanuel Garza’s third birthday. Family from California and Michigan welcomed him home.

Jiana Escobar

Jiana Escobar has been named to the Dean’s List for the winter quarter at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo’s Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences Department.

Jiana is the daughter of Albert and Kristy Escobar of Gilroy.
