Honors
Lucas Morris
Lucas Morris of San Juan Bautista will attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Philadelphia this July. At the forum, Morris will explore the field of medicine by participating in a simulation, visiting medical facilities and interacting with doctors and researchers. Morris will attend Cal State Fullerton next fall as a freshman. He plans to major in Kinesiology.

Sarah Reinartz
Sarah Reinartz, of Gilroy, will represent Valley Christian High School at the People to People Future Leaders Summit on Theater and the Arts in New York, June 2006. While in New York, Reinartz will attend workshops and presentations to build her skills in the arts, as well as meet with college admissions officers to learn about the application process.

Jacqueline Kattner, a recent graduate of San Diego State University, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, a national honor society. Kattner majored in kinesiology and plans to enter medical school in the fall.

Del Real
Former Hollister residents Anthony and Judy Del Real will be celebrating three graduations this year. They both graduated from San Benito High School in 1977 and 1978.
Anthony Arballo Del Real will be receiving his bachelor’s degree and credentials in liberal studies from California State University, Long Beach. He has served 24 years in the U.S. Air Force and currently lives in Lakewood in Southern California. Their son Angel graduated from Mayfair High School and will be attending CSU Long Beach. Their youngest son Vince will be promoted from Mayfair Middle School to Mayfair High School. Their eldest son Tai graduated last year and finished his first year at Cerritos College.

Jay M. Baksa II received his master’s degree in public administration from San Diego State University on May 21.

Robert Baksa graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor of arts degree in recreation administration from San Diego State University on May 21.
He is a member of the Golden Key Honor Society. He was recognized as a Graduate with Distinction in his major and was named Outstanding Student in his major emphasis in systems management.

Weddings
Reyes-Gilbert
Tonya Reyes of Los Banos, the daughter of Cynthia Caldwell, was married May 14 to Phillip Lee Gilbert, son of Arleen and Neil Williams and Richard Gilbert.
Reyes is an office manager at Larco Industries in Gilroy, and Gilbert is a driver for Garza Trucking. They were married at the Church of the Nazarene in Los Banos, officiated by Carol Thomas.
The bride wore an ivory strapless gown with a chapel-length train. Her attendants were Cindy Gillen, matron of honor, Patricia Reyes and Jasmine Gilbert. David Ghigliazza was the best man and Christopher Reyes was the usher. The ring bearer was Andrew Reyes.
The reception took place at home around the pool, and 75 guests attended the wedding. After the wedding, the newlyweds departed for a seven-day honeymoon cruise to Mexico.
Rizzuto-Blocher
Jeanie Rizzuto, the daughter of Joe and Dorothy Rizzuto of Gilroy and the granddaughter of Alma Cathrein of Prunedale was married to William “Bill” Blocher, the son of Richard and Barbara Blocher of Gilroy on Sept. 25 at Clos LaChance Winery in San Martin.
The ceremony took place at 5:30pm outside overlooking the vineyards and Hayes Valley. The music included “Sunrise, Sunset,” “Ave Maria” and “Con di Partiro.” The bride entered to a non-traditional instrumental from the movie, “A Love Affair.” The reception immediately followed in the Mulberry Grove and outside on the terrace.
The best man, Jim Blocher, brother to the groom gave a toast that more closely resembled a “roast,” but that was filled with laughs and heartfelt The matron of honor, Wendy O’Sullivan, friend of the bride, toasted the couple with a poem she wrote about their friendship, sharing of special moments and fun times together with the couple.
The bride and her father danced to “Spanish Eyes” chosen in memory of Lena “Nana” Rizzuto, grandmother of the bride. The four-tier cake was from The Buttery Bakery with alternating layers of chocolate and carrot cake, draped in white fondant and decorated with chocolate Grenache vines and grape clusters designed by the bride.
The bride wore a strapless, lace-up Maggie Sottero gown with a bodice embellished with beads, pearls and crystals. She carried a bouquet of cream and white roses, orchids, lisianthus, baby calla lilies and hydrangeas with camellia leaf accents.
Sophia and Camille Blocher and Gemma Rizzuto, nieces of the bride and groom, were the flower girls and wore white cotton dresses and sprinkled red rose petals. The ushers were the brides two older brothers, Joey and Jay Rizzuto.
The bride is a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Salinas and has a bachelor of arts degree from California State University, Chico. She is currently employed by Johnson & Johnson as a strategic market director.
The groom graduated from St. Michael’s Prep in El Toro, Calif. and was a horticulture major at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and is currently vice president for Western Tree Nursery, Inc. of Gilroy.
Engagement
Schuck-Ryals
Angela Marie Schuck of Pacific Grove is engaged to marry Jason Arthur Ryals of Simi Valley. Angela, the daughter of Ken and Sylvia Schuck, is a graduate of Pacific Grove High School and is pursuing Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a master of education, counseling.
Jason is the son of John and Judy Ryals of Pioneer and a graduate of Gilroy High School and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. The couple met at college and were best friends for a number of years. They will be married Aug. 6 at Mission Ranch in Carmel.
