Emery Violet Sparling

Emery Violet Sparling was born March 17, 2007, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hosptial to parents Liz and Everett Sparling of Hollister. She weighed 8 pounds, 13 ounces.

David Victor Bisceglia

David Victor Bisceglia was born April 22, 2007, at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital in Hollister to parents Jaqueline and Peter Bisceglia Jr. of Hollister. He weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces.

Anthony James Sanchez

Anthony James Sanchez was born April 17, 2007, at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital in Hollister to parents Stephanie Hope and Matthew Charles Sanchez of Gilroy. He weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces.

Matthew Henry Lee

Matthew Henry Lee was born April 27, 2007, at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital in Hollister to parents Michele and Bill Lee of Hollister. He weighed 10 pounds.

ENGAGEMENTS

Sanchez/Hessling

Lindsay Renee Sanchez, daughter of Rick and Carol Sanchez of Morgan Hill, and Robert James Hessling, son of Jim and Margot Hessling of Morgan Hill, are engaged.

Lindsay is a student at San Jose State University, majoring in communications. Robert is the president of Home Guard Home Warranty. He recieved a B.A. in business and an M.B.A. from San Jose State University.

The couple plan to marry July 7, 2007.

Kristi Medeiros, an honor student from Monte Vista Christian, and Steven Jackson-Flores, an all-star football and wrestling player from San Benito High School, are engaged.

Steven received his B.A. in public administration from Chico University and became a firefighter. Kristi attended Vanguard University where she recieved her B.A. in marketing and currently works for HSBC.

The couple plan to marry in May.

WEDDINGS

Bacigalupo/Guglielmo

Laura Bacigalupo, daughter of June and Irv Bacigalupo, and Gene R. Guglielmo were married March 31, 2007.

Laura is a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School. Gene is part owner of Guglielmo Winery and was Man of the Year for Morgan Hill.

The wedding was held at the Santa Cruz harbor and a small reception with immediate family was held at Seascape Resort.

Schmitke/Vonasek

Jennifer Vonasek and Steve Schmitke were married Nov. 11, 2006. at Enloe Hospital in Chico. Jennifer’s grandfather, the Honorable R.G. Vonasek, officiated.

Jennifer is the daughter of Colleen Vonasek of Orland and the late Jason ‘Jay’ Vonasek. Steve is the son of Jere and Kathleen Schmitke of Orland.

Jennifer attended Nordstrom Elementary School in Morgan Hill and graduated from Orland High School in 2000. She is a 2006 graduate of California State University, Chico, and plans to be a kindergarten teacher.

Steve graduated from Orland High School in 2001 and from Butte College in 2004.

Friends and family joined the couple at a backyard reception at the home of the bride’s grandparents in Orland.

The couple honeymooned in Fort Bragg. Both Jennifer and Steve are employed by Les Schwab and are making their home in Orland.

HONORS

Bryan Andwer Rusch

Bryan Andrew Rusch earned his Eagle Scout rank on May 25, 2006. He earned 22 merit badges, held four leadership positions and earned four special awards. His Eagle project was building a staircase handrail for the Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center. While in scouting, Rusch attended many BSA summer camps, but his favorite was Emerald Bay, in Catalina, where he enjoyed the water sports available, such as sailing, canoeing and motor-boating.

Outside of scouts, Rusch enjoys sports, both as a participant and fan. As a boy, he played baseball and soccer, and continued playing baseball in high school. He also enjoys golf. Last summer he and his father were able to tour many of the major league baseball stadiums to watch games and play golf in between. Rusch attended Bellarmine the first three years of high school, but decided to rejoin his lifelong friends at Live Oak High School for his senior year. He currently attends San Diego State majoring in Psychology.

Mark William Johanson

Mark William Johanson has been a scout for many years, beginning with cub scouts. He earned his Eagle Scout rank on May 25, 2006. When he turned 18, he signed up as an adult leader in Troop 730. He recently attended the annual snow camping trip, acting as the adult “grubmaster.” While in scouting, he earned 22 merit badges, held 15 leadership positions and earned 12 special awards. His Eagle project was a city-wide program for collection and distribution of personal care items for US troops in Iraq.

In addition to scouting, Johanson, a senior at Live Oak High School, is a member of the Live Oak Jazz Band, marching band, and Drama piano accompanist. He’s also accompanied Sobrato & Gilroy High School choir concerts and plays horn with the Valley Christian High School orchestra. Johanson is very active in his church (Advent Lutheran). He is a member of the church orchestra, serves as confirmation class mentor and chairs a youth leadership team organizing weekend events for Northern California youth. Johanson plans on attending Valparaiso University in Indiana in the fall and will major in Music Education. His career goal is to be a high school music teacher.

Christopher Matthew Holmes

Christopher Matthew Holmes is the youngest scout in Troop 730 to become an Eagle Scout, earning the rank on Sept. 26, 2006 at the age of 15. He is an active member of the troop, and has earned 21 merit badges, held five leadership positions and earned three special awards. His Eagle project was the preparation and repainting of a major portion of the United Methodist Church in Morgan Hill.

Outside of scouting, Holmes plays guitar and is a member of the Sobrato High School Junior Varsity roller hockey team. He is active in his church, and helps with their sound and lighting systems. In his spare time enjoys watching hockey, attending as many Sharks games as he can. He is currently learning to drive.

Steven Aceves

Air Force Airman Steven M. Aceves has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations.

He is the son of Tricia Aceves of Hollister. Aceves is a 2005 graduate of San Benito High School.

Nicholas Dowdle

Nicholas Dowdle, a 2002 graduate of Live Oak High School and a 2006 graduate of The Virginia Military Instiute, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps on March 30, 2007.  He will continue his training at the Marine Corp Base in Quantico, Virginia for the next six months.

Matthew Kracht

Thomas Jefferson School of Law has awarded a juris doctor degree to Matthew Kracht, the son of John Kracht, a resident of Morgan Hill and Danelia Kracht of Palm Desert. Kracht earned a bachelor’s degree in history from San Diego State University

in 2001. While at Thomas Jefferson, he made the Distinguished Honor Roll, the Honor Roll, and the National Dean’s List. He was also involved with the Thomas Jefferson Law Review, a student publication on important legal issues. Kracht was a member of Thomas Jefferson’s Christian Legal Society. While attending the law school, he interned at the San Diego city attorney’s office.

Jennifer Walker
