The sentencing has been put off until Nov. 12 for a Salinas woman who has pleaded guilty to drunken driving charges relating to the February vehicle accident death of Hollister’s Adam Haney on Highway 101.

According to court reports, the defense attorney asked for a continuation beyond a scheduled hearing this week because he awaits an alcohol report needed for sentencing.

Rosario Lopez, 26, who pleaded guilty recently to a charge of driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury or death, has been postponed until 8:30 a.m. Nov. 12.

Lopez was northbound on Highway 101 at a high speed in a 2006 Toyota Tundra and struck the pickup truck Haney was driving from behind, causing it to roll over. Monterey County Deputy District Attorney Douglas Matheson told the Free Lance she had been “drinking all the way from Santa Barbara and was upset over some kind of breakup.” She tested at a 0.14 percent blood-alcohol level afterward.

Lopez, whom Monterey County prosecutors initially charged with manslaughter, will receive a maximum sentence of seven years in state prison.
