Just in time for the holidays, the California Milk Processor Board (CMPB), the creator of GOT MILK?, has partnered with mixologist Duggan McDonnell to give drink enthusiasts a delicious way to toast the festivities with family and friends. McDonnell, who has been recognized as one of the “Leaders of the American Cocktail Revolution” by Food & Wine Magazine, concocted one-of-a-kind drink recipes to keep milk flowing during holiday celebrations.

“Milk is an essential ingredient to holiday cocktails because it adds a creamy, supple texture to drinks,” McDonnell said. “Serving milk-based drinks to your guests unleashes a burst of flavors they – and their taste buds – will love.”

McDonnell has been a fixture on the west coast beverage scene for the past ten years. With a Level One Certification in the Court of Master Sommeliers, his inventive spirit and highly trained palate has gained him recognition among the food and wine community. McDonnell was recently named Rising Star Bar Chef by StarChefs.com and was honored by Food & Wine Magazine as one the “Leaders of the American Cocktail Revolution.” McDonnell has also served as a Cocktail Designer for the Sundance Film Festival. He is the owner of Cantina Bar in San Francisco.

A California native, McDonnell has created sophisticated milk-based drinks – which may be enjoyed with or without spirits – with ingredients that can be easily found in the kitchen: cinnamon, eggs, vanilla, nutmeg and of course, milk. Available exclusively on www.gotmilk.com, McDonnell’s holiday milk-based cocktails include:

– P.B. & J. Granita – This non-alcoholic beverage features a combination of milk, peanut butter, raspberries and lemon juice. Blend with ice and pour over individual glasses with a salted rim for a deliciously frosty drink guests of all ages will enjoy.

– Frothy Vanillanog – An airy twist on the traditional eggnog, this version is made with milk, fluffy egg whites, brown sugar, vanilla extract and almond extract. Combine together; add ice and crown with cinnamon powder or spicy chili powder for extra kick.

– Cinnamon Sake Horchata – This sophisticated cocktail is inspired by a popular Latin drink. Mix milk, Nigori Sake, cinnamon syrup, lime juice, almond extract, and dust with cinnamon for a refreshingly spiced drink.

– Caribbean Milk Punch – No holiday celebration is complete without the comforting holiday flavors of nutmeg and cinnamon. This Caribbean delight is made with milk, spiced rum, agave syrup, cinnamon and nutmeg. Just whisk the ingredients together, add ice, dust with cinnamon or nutmeg and enjoy.

“McDonnell’s festive milk-based drinks and cocktails are the perfect way to cap off a holiday celebration or to enjoy as a delightful winter treat,” said Steve James, executive director of the CMPB. “Through his recipes, McDonnell shows the uniqueness milk brings to the table and parties during this season’s festivities.”
