Sheriff Curtis Hill said his office is still investigating the cause of death in the Robert Stewart case, but the “bleached white” bones will make it difficult and take some time.

Investigators on March 24 found the remains and confirmed the identity before announcing it Thursday. Stewart, of Calgary in Canada, was age 29 when he lost contact with his family in 2006.
The sheriff’s department is exhausting all leads, Hill said. Following up with the family, Hill hopes to get into contact with friends with hopes of finding out why Stewart was in California.
After four years, though, the sheriff’s office needs to “catch a break,” Hill said.
“We aren’t able to move ahead with anything until we find someone with other information, someone who saw him,” Hill said. “Right now, there is nothing new.”
At the point of his disappearance and when the missing person’s report was filed, Stewart was unknown to the Calgary Police Department, a spokesperson said.
The sheriff’s office is still examining the area for remains, sending search-and-rescue teams, Lamonica said. Authorities would not say the specific location where the remains were found and it is to prevent having people going in the area.
