The San Juan Bautista City Council delayed consideration of a proposed gas station at Windmill Market last week after an error in notifying nearby residents about the meeting.

The issue will now be back on the agenda at the Oct. 7 meeting.

City Manager Stephen Julian said the item was pulled from the agenda after an “oversight” regarding noticing requirements.

“City code requires on some of these things that you notify people within so many feet (of the proposed project) by mail,” he said, noting that the procedure was followed when the issue was considered by the planning commission.

The council is set to consider resolutions that would approve a conditional use permit for the gas station, amend the Windmill Plaza Shopping Center’s planned unit development plan, and approve signage for the station, which would be built in the center’s parking lot.

Windmill Market owner Jim Gibson has proposed the station, which would be the second in San Juan, as a means of drawing in more traffic to his business center as well as the town in general. The market is the anchor tenant of the development, which is located at the corner of Hwy. 156 and The Alameda.
