The San Juan Bautista City Council on June 28 is expected to interview in closed session five candidates for the interim city manager’s job left open by the resignation of Steven Julian last month.

Mayor Andy Moore said the city received 18 applications for the position, which will pay $85,000 per year plus benefits.

After the in-person interviews at City Hall, Moore said the city will “check references and take it a step further before we regroup” to make a final decision about whom to hire.

“It should be pretty quick after that,” he said.
