Snow hits San Benito County
Residents who live in the hills east of Hollister received a rare early Christmas gift of fresh fallen snow. A winter storm that dropped 1.04 inches of rain in the valley over the last week left the hilltops of the Diablo Range dusted with snow Dec. 16. Temperatures in Hollister proper dipped to near freezing at night and stayed chilly during the day over the past few days.
With the dusting of snow, which generally only lasts a few hours on the ground in the high country of San Benito County, families gathered outside for a snow day.
The Low family dressed up in thick, winter coats and sock caps for some fun in the snow on Lone Tree Road. Lisa Low pelted her husband, Cameron, with a snowball, while kids Brent and Brandon also made snowballs.
“We drove up just because the kids haven’t had a chance to play in the snow very often,” Cameron said. “We heard it was gonna snow down to 1,000 feet, which is kind of rare for this area. We thought we’d take advantage of it and go see the snow.”
Cameron took the day off from work to spend with his wife and children.
“It was a great time,” he said. “The kids enjoyed it.”
