San Benito's Victoria Perez competes for the ball as she avoids a high kick Friday against St. Francis.

With its second win in a row Monday, the girls soccer team moved its record to 4-3-1 as the team enters its winter break.
The Balers dominated San Lorenzo Valley with two first half goals, in a 2-0 win. In the game, San Lorenzo Valley struggled to gain an offensive push, as play stayed inside the Balers’ offensive zone.
“It seemed like we had the ball for 95 percent of the time,” head coach Ben Alvarez said.
The offense attack started early for the Balers.
Berenice Bribiesca got San Benito on the board in the game’s sixth minute. Off a corner kick, Bribiesca gained controlled of the ball inside the goalie’s box and scored.
San Benito added its second goal in the 40th minute from the foot of Karly Leon.
Recently, the biggest improvement for San Benito has been its explosive offensive. The offense has scored seven goals in the past two games. To get the offensive push need, Alvarez turned up the aggressiveness of the team.
“We are more aggressive,” he said. “We attack the ball and try to score. We want to settle everything on the field and not in extra time.”
The team now sends its defensive support into the offensive zone when attacking, Alvarez said. Despite the approach chance, the defense still has played well.
“We played too much defense before,” Alvarez said. “We got complacent. Now we are not. I think that’s been the difference.”
San Benito’s next game is schedule for Jan. 9 against league opponent North Salinas.
