A season comes to an end in South County
Every good thing must come to an end. With that said, congratulations go out to the King City High Lady Mustangs and their coach, Adrian Trujillo for having such an outstanding season. The Ladies ended up with an 18-7 record overall after their final loss of the season last Saturday in the CCS division IV playoffs against MTAL rival, Santa Catalina.
Interestingly, the girls were “awarded” 2 first round byes in the playoffs due to having the better record, but in the end, the byes are what hindered their play. Catalina earned a win in the second round of the playoffs, thus having the momentum going into the game. Our ladies were off for over 10 days before the game. Good for some, allowing some extra time to recover from some lingering ailments, but not so good for others as the whole team seemed a little sluggish during the game. The girls did play hard but just couldn’t keep up with the Cougars this time. Congratulations to Beth Carroll on such an outstanding game and being awarded player of the game by KRKC, and to Sierra Sans for receiving defensive player of the game.
It was a bittersweet game in the end, being the final high school game for Seniors Mattie Barrington, Carolyn Madson, Megan Muniz and everyone’s favorite foreign exchange student Mina. I will so miss watching Mattie, Sierra and Carolyn play together since they’ve played together since grade school. But, next year is a new year with new up and coming talent. We can look forward to the return of Natalie Madson, along with Beth Carroll, Breanna Rosas, Mandy Muzylowski, Erica Williams, Kylie Owens, Kelsie Padilla and Sierra Jo.
It was a fun way to end the year as John Madson recruited enough rooters to fill two big buses for the trip to Santa Cruz. Some of those traveling to support the ladies included: Jim and Betty Barrington, Bill and Robin Rist, Curtis Carroll, The Carnazzo Family, Billy, Katherine and Evan Petrovich, Cheryl Harrison, Ed Copley, the entire “boys” rooting section that always make so much noise at the games and many, many more family members and friends of the girls.
It was a great season ladies, thanks for the memories and we’re all gonna miss you senior girls next year. We love ya! Now, it’s on to baseball!
In other basketball news, the KCHS boys Varsity team lost their first round playoff bid last week to Kings Academy in Sunnyvale, and the Bitterwater Badgers, coached by Tamra Barrington defeated Jefferson School in a fun game last Friday at Jefferson School. The Badgers have a co-ed team this year and are limiting their play to the smaller schools with co-ed teams. This week they will travel to Bradley to play in a tournament there.
Birthday wishes go out to Miss Sarah Brewen who celebrated her birthday last Wednesday, Feb. 25th. She is 6 years old.
John and Jane Wooster branded a set of calves last Friday at the Crown W Ranch. Some of those helping out included: John and J.W Brewen, John Nino, Dough Forzani, Ronnie Garcia, Wyatt Duncan, Kenny, Vickie, Casey and Colleen Sabin and Todd and I. Andrew Wooster barbecued the most delicious steaks for lunch after the branding.
J.W. and Candace Brewen took a crew with them last Saturday to Alpaugh to brand some more calves. Joining them were the Sabin Family, John Nino and Doug Forzani.
Kassie O’Connor and Rachel Diaz have been playing in a travel volleyball club and they won their last tournament in Salinas by defeating several teams. Way to go girls!
A big congratulations goes out to Bill and Robin Rist as they announced that they will be grandparents again! Their daughter, Sundae, is expecting her first child in October.
Congratulations also go out to Sarah Schmidt on the birth of her first child, Rocky Jo, born last Wednesday, Feb. 25.
