Holidays bring rain to South County

I hope you all enjoyed a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah or whatever your celebration may be with your family and friends. That nice little shot of rain last week helped make many South County folks’ holidays a little brighter!

Sarah Mae DeRosa called me the other day with news from Jefferson School. They held their Christmas program at the school Thursday, Dec. 14th. The students performed a holiday play entitled “Jingle Bell Jury” that was very entertaining.  After the play, everyone enjoyed a nice dessert buffet. The next day, Sarah Mae and her daughter Jeanette treated the students to a pizza party to thank them for their efforts in selling raffle tickets for their field trip fundraiser. Once again, a big thank you goes out to Bourdet’s Christmas Tree Farm in Hollister for donating the trees to South County Schools for their fundraisers. After the pizza party, the students wrote thank you notes to John and Tina. The notes were hand delivered to them by Joe and Sadie Chavez. This year the trees that were raffled off at Jefferson School were won by traveling preschool teacher Julie Dupris and by the Beaver Dam Fire Station. Besides the Christmas party and pizza party, the students from Jefferson also celebrated the birthdays of Joe and Sadie Chavez, and Samantha Simmons.

Congratulations go out to King City resident Michelle Kreihbel for being honored as the Mee Memorial Hospital Employee of the Year last week. Michelle was honored at the annual hospital Christmas dinner last Friday. Some South County residents enjoying the dinner were Laurence and Donna Hansen and Johnny Joe and Darlene Maggini.

Vern and Joann Scattini and Lynette Hurley hosted a Christmas party/Monday night football party at their bunkhouse last Monday evening. Some of those enjoying the evening included:  John Wooster, Billy and Karen Whitney, Ken and Vickie Sabin, Casey Sabin, Laurence and Donna Hansen, Jeff and Jean Schmidt, Hec and Kasey Hurley, J.W. and Candace Brewen, Andy and Tamra Barrington, Mike and Brandi Garza, Nessen Schmidt and Val Basetti, Sandy and Jessika Silva, John Brewen and Lou Harbin, Gregg and Sami Jo Johnsen and me and Todd.

If you’re looking for something to do on New Year’s Eve, head on over to the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds where Earl and J.D. Escobar will be hosting the second annual Colin Coady Memorial Bull Riding and New Year’s Eve dance. The evening will begin at 6:00 P.M. and will include Open and Junior Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, a silent auction and a dance. All proceeds will benefit the Colin Coady Memorial Fund.

Have a safe and Happy New Year’s Eve, and, if you have any news, be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected].
