It was another pleasant week in South County last week, although there was no rain to speak of, again. The weather forecasters are talking up another storm this week, let’s hope they’re right.

Birthday wishes go out to Jean Schmidt who celebrated her birthday last Monday, the 12th. She celebrated her day by taking in the Lady Mustangs Basketball game in King City. Jeff and Jean weren’t the only Bitterwater residents to take in the game either. Seems the entire community was there to support the girls!  Unfortunately, the girls were unable to pull out the win in that game, but they still were able to make the playoffs that will begin this week.

Others celebrating recent birthdays include Betty Sans who also celebrated on the 12th, Rhett and Guy Falsey, Todd Sans and Heidi Hurley.

The Bitterwater 4-H Club held their annual Valentine’s Day Bake Sale last week at the school. Thank you to the community for supporting our club again. Once again, the sale was another big success.

If you’re ever driving through Tres Pinos and you’re feeling a little hungry, be sure to stop by the Veranda Cafe for a sandwich and cup of coffee. I’ve been there a few times and always enjoy it. The food is really good and the service is wonderful. The owner is so friendly and he really seems to appreciate all of his customers. It has become a favorite spot for me to stop.

The California High School Rodeo Association, district 4, hosted a high school rodeo in King City last weekend. Many South County and King City residents participated in the two-day long event. Some of those competing included:  Megan and Kristy Melton, Blaine and Blaire Strohn, Samantha, Leanne and Kristen Ceglia, Katie Vest, Cortney Bowers, Sierra Jo Sans, Callie Whitney, Katie Harris, Megan Cheney, Dreux Clark, Rob and Averi Regan and Jenna Lombardi.

The San Benito County Cattle women will be hosting a Pedro Party this Friday night at the Tres Pinos Church Hall. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. The evening begins at 6 p.m. The annual Reverse Draw Dinner Dance hosted by the Cattlemen’s Association will be held March 31 at Bolado Park. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased from any Cattlemen.

Good Luck to the Lady Mustangs this week in their first playoff game and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
