Wet and cold weather hits South County
It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas around here
– very cold and very wet. No complaints here, though. I love
this time of year! Green grass is popping up all over the place. I
think it’s going to be a very nice Thanksgiving this year.
District 4 high school rodeo members traveled to Oakdale last
weekend to compete in a wet and wild multi-district rodeo with
District 5. By the looks of some of the pictures, it looked really
wet and muddy! Glad we weren’t there! A huge congratulation goes
out to Cash Robinson and Dane Browning for winning the team roping
average there. There are some pretty tough ropers over that way so
that is a big accomplishment. Way to go, boys!

Speaking of rodeo, this really is my favorite time of year as the NFR begins next week in Las Vegas. I love staying up late every night watching the NFR with a fire in the fire place and my Christmas tree lights on. Many South County folks will be heading to Vegas to take in the action and, of course, that great Cowboy Christmas shopping extravaganza.

We attended our last ever Powderpuff Football game last week in King City as Sierra will be graduating this year. She ended her powderpuff career on a good note though as she scored the only touchdown of the game en route to the Senior Class win. Hard to believe she’s a senior. My, how time flies!

Now that football and volleyball season is officially over, now it’s on to basketball. Both Sierra and Buddy will be beginning their seasons next week. The KCHS girls basketball team will be hosting their annual Alumni game this Saturday at 7 p.m. It’s always an entertaining game. I’m sure Maddie “Mad Dog” Barrington will be back on the court again.

We got a real nice shot of rain in South County last week. John and Janel Flook reported right at an inch of rain over the weekend while Vern and Jo Ann Scattini reported around .80 hundredths. We had about .75 hundredths at our place while Steve Rianda reportedly had close to an inch at his place in Reliz Canyon. Keep it coming, Mother Nature. We’re on a roll now!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your family and friends. Now that Thanksgiving is over, let the shopping begin! Start your holidays off by heading over to Bourdet’s Christmas Tree Farm for a fun filled, family day. You can wander through the tree farm and learn some Christmas Trivia while searching for your tree. The little ones can visit with Santa and enjoy the FFA petting zoo. Opening day is the day after Thanksgiving and they will remain open daily through Christmas Eve.

Have a great week and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
