South County residents attend Monterey roping and ranching
event
Summer has officially come to a close in South County as all
school kids are now back in school. Of course, now that school is
back in session, the heat waves are coming on like gang busters. It
was extremely hot last week for a few days. Then it cooled off a
lot over the weekend. Then it went back to hot temperatures again
this week. I’m not sure what Mother Nature has is store for us this
year, I just hope it’s good and wet!

Are you all ready for some football? I sure am; only one more week until the NFL season officially gets under way. I’m not too sure about either of my teams (the Broncos and my fantasy team) this year. At least if the Broncos don’t do well, I’ll have my fantasy league to keep me going. Our Commissioner, Kristy Bourdet, has got our league up and running on the Internet so next week ladies be ready to rock and roll because the games will be on! Good luck, everyone!
Get well soon wishes go out to Cash Robinson who had surgery on is broken foot last week. Cash will be out of commission for several weeks. He’s got a lot of energy so I’m sure he’s going to get bored very quickly. Follow the doctors orders, Cash, and get well quick!
The Monterey County Cattlemen’s Association hosted their annual roping and ranch rodeo last weekend at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City. Some of those participating from our area included Mitch, Kristy, Lacey and Jake Bourdet, Dean, Dawson and Lila Bell, Cheyenne Rey, Jeff and Dina Cabral, Andy, Tamra and Wacey Barrington, Bailee Nelson, Florian Barth, Pat, Lanie and Alyssa Abercrombie, Casey and Colleen Sabin, Vern and JoAnn Scattini, Hec, Kasey and Taylor Hurley, John and Johnnie Nino, Ellie and David Porteur, J.W. Brewen, Kenny Reed, Cynnie O’Connor, Brett Bonfantini and me, Todd, Sierra and Brody. Congratulations to Dudley Little of San Ardo for winning the Roy Gianolini Memorial Saddle for the All-around title and to Jo Ann Scattini for winning the over 50 Calf Branding with Bo Ramsey. Other winners were Hec Hurley, Lee Whitney, Todd Utterback and Sid Humphrey in the Match Calf Branding; Todd Utterback and Joe Roth in the Cut N Rope; Bert Ferrasci, Brett Bonfantini, Jeff Cabral and Ronnie Garcia in the draw Calf Branding; and Vern Simmons, Casey Vollin and Mark Carreiro in the Cattle Sorting. Ross Rianda did another fine job of flagging for the day.
If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, be sure to head over to Bolado Park for the Hollister PBR that takes place on Saturday evening. There will be lots of professional bull riders on hand to compete for some good prize money. Local favorite Brendon Clark will be competing as well as many others. They have also included a junior bull riding this year so you will also get to see some up and coming talented bull riders as well. Besides the bull riding action, there is also a Poker Run, Golf Tournament and a concert by retired bull rider Justin McBride on Friday night. Should be a great weekend for all PBR fans.
Don’t forget to get your entries in for the San Benito County Fair. Entries close today for everything. That includes 4-H, FFA, Horseshow, Rodeo and still exhibits. The fair is right around the corner and you don’t want to miss out!
