Fall means football
Are you ready for some football? Hooray, football season is
finally here! This is one of my favorite times of the year,
football, buck season, fall and the holidays. Oh, and I can’t
forget the Little League World Series, one of my all time favorite
sporting events. Life don’t get much better than this!

I’ve been studying up on Fantasy Football players as our Naughty Football Ladies Fantasy League is gearing up for another season. We will be having our draft next week so I’ve been watching the sports news and reading up on all the sleepers. Hopefully I’ll do a lot better than I did last year!
Jene Mathis, barrel racing director for the National Barrel Horse Association, produced a Betty Sans Memorial Barrel Race last Saturday at the Posse Grounds in Salinas. It was a very successful event and a very beautiful day. All those who went were very touched by the event and they all had a great day. Congratulations to Becky Ford for winning one of the beautiful memorial buckles. I wish they all could have stayed in the county!
The San Benito County Fair is right around the corner. Entries are due on Sept. 2 and they are available online or at the fair office.
The Hollister PBR is next week. I hope you all marked your calendars for this fun event. What better way to spend your Labor Day Weekend than watching top notch bull riding at its best. The event will feature local rider Brendon Clark as well as junior rider Cash Robinson. Professional announcer Luke Kaufman will be announcing and world class bull fighter Joe Baumgartner will be protecting the bull riders. Activities such as mutton busting and wine tasting will be taking place all day long at Bolado Park and many vendors will be on hand for your shopping pleasure as well. The bull riding begins at 6 p.m. but plan on spending the day out there as there will be plenty to do all day long. Sept. 2 is the date and Bolado Park is the place to be. Hope to see you there.
Kasey Hurley and I headed off to Lake Tahoe last weekend to see Miranda Lambert in concert at Harvey’s Outdoor Theater. She put on a great show but one of the best parts of her show was when her husband, Blake Shelton, came out and sang with her. That was quite a treat. Also heading up to Tahoe to watch Miranda in concert was Katie Weaver and her mom. It was definitely a girls’ weekend get away as the women out numbered the men at the show. We gad a great time but we’re glad to get back home.
Congratulations to David Porteur and Cash Robinson for winning the Family Team Roping at the Nor-Cal, Jr. Rodeo in Oakdale last weekend. Cash had a good weekend as he covered both his bulls in the bull riding, won the family team roping and roped well in the junior team roping with Brody. Brody didn’t quite fare as well as Cash as he got bucked off his bull pretty hard and ended up with a fractured shoulder. He’ll be out of bull riding for a while as that heals up. Wyatt Nacarrato had a good weekend as well as he won the High Money Heeler buckle at the California High School Rodeo Dist 4 Fundraiser team roping last Sunday. Great job, Wyatt!
The Monterey County Cattlemen’s Association will be hosting their 35th Annual Team Roping and Ranch Rodeo this weekend at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City. The team roping is on Saturday, followed by a Calcutta of the ranch rodeo teams on Saturday night. The ranch rodeo begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Have a great week and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at we********@ao*.com with any news you’d like to share.
