South County residents talk about the weather
Happy spring everyone, although it seems a lot more like the
middle of winter than spring right now! Rain is the big topic of
conversation these days. It sure is wonderful, though. The hills
are green. The rivers, creeks, ponds and lakes are filling up and
everyone is happy!
Rain totals are coming in from all over South County. Traci
Eade-Eggleston reported 4.5 inches up in Lewis Creek last weekend
while J.W. and Candace Brewen received 4.25 inches at their place.
Vern and Jo Ann Scattini were right at about 4 inches in
Bitterwater and we received right at 2.5 inches at our place. Les
and Betty Sans reported approximately 2.75 at their house. More
rain is expected so batten down the hatches and enjoy the wet
weather.

Birthday wishes go out to Jamii Pura who celebrated the big 4-0 on March 21. Jamii had a huge party at her place on Saturday night in which half of the county was on hand to help her celebrate. She even had the band from John and Kyla Rianda’s wedding in Elko, Nev. fly in to play for the party. Between Nessen’s 60th birthday the week before and Jamii’s 40th last week, it goes to show that South County folks know how to throw a party!
Speaking of parties, the San Benito County Cattlemen’s Association will be hosting their annual Reverse Draw Dinner Dance Fundraiser this Saturday evening at Bolado Park. This is always a fun event to attend. If you haven’t got your tickets yet, contact any Cattleman to get yours.
A big congratulations goes out to Nicole Rianda on being named the Ladies Basketball Most Valuable Player at San Benito High School. Nicole was also chosen as an All-League player in the Tri-County Athletic League and she will play in the All-Star game next week in Salinas. Sierra was chosen to play on the All-Star team representing King City as well so the girls may get to play with each other after all! The game will be held at the Boys and Girls Club in Salinas on April 1. Congratulations to Buddy Sans who was selected MVP for the King City Boys JV team and to Sierra Sans for being named Defensive Player of the Year for the Lady Mustangs.
Congratulations on a job well done also goes out to Emily Brewen who placed third in the County Wide Spelling Bee last Tuesday night in Hollister. Emily represented Bitterwater Tully School in fine fashion.
Many South County kids will be heading off to Plymouth this weekend for the California High School Rodeo Association Challenge of the Champions Rodeo. I hope they take their raincoats as it is going to be a wet and muddy rodeo. Some of those competing from our area include Blaine and Blair Strohn, Cash Robinson, Mikael Enz, Cheyenne Rey and Kristy Melton. Good luck to all of you and have fun!
Have a great week, enjoy the rain and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
