South County Round-Up

Happy summer everyone! Summer officially began on June 21, and
it came in with a bang. It has been HOT out here in South County.

Congratulations go out to all 2006 graduates this year.  King City High School held their graduation ceremonies last Saturday at the football stadium.  It was another warm day but at least they hold their ceremonies early in the morning in order to beat the heat. 

There were several graduation parties taking place all over South County.  We attended Johnny Nino’s graduation party last Saturday afternoon and Sami O’Connor’s party on Sunday.  Juan Mendoza had a big celebration last Saturday afternoon as well.  Congratulations to all graduates and best of luck to you in the future.

Pat and Michelle Castillo are celebrating the births of their new set of twins born last Friday, June 16 in Salinas.  Cole and Lillian arrived happy and healthy and Mom and babies are doing well.  Congratulations Pat and Michelle!

The annual Memorial Ropings honoring Richie Fehlman, Kenny Vierra and Tom Carreiro took place last Saturday at the Blackburn Ranch in Hollister.  Competing from South County were J.W. Brewen, Hec Hurley, Casey Sabin, Nessen Schmidt and Vern and Jo Ann Scattini.  Congratulations to Nessen and Vern for winning the Cut and Rope.

The Figure 8 eliminations for the San Benito Saddle Horse Show and Rodeo were held last Sunday at Bolado Park, followed by a delicious barbecue lunch.  We had lunch with Bob and Rhea Pivetti and Rhea shared with us the most delicious brownies I have ever tasted. I’ve got to get the recipe for those.

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, the Saddle Horse Show begins this Friday evening at Bolado Park and runs through Sunday.  Many South County folks will be competing again this year.
