Whew, it has been hot, hot, hot out here in South County these
days. It was well over 100 degrees several days last week and looks
like we’re in for more hot days this week too. Folks with swimming
pools are taking full advantage of them these days while others are
either staying indoors or finding other ways to beat the heat.
Whew, it has been hot, hot, hot out here in South County these days.  It was well over 100 degrees several days last week and looks like we’re in for more hot days this week too.  Folks with swimming pools are taking full advantage of them these days while others are either staying indoors or finding other ways to beat the heat.

Baseball season officially came to an end for King City Little Leaguers last week.  The 9-10 year old division A all-star team, led by coach James Flores, ended up fourth in the All-star Tournament while the 10-11 year old team, led by Coaches Allen Umbarger and Chris Pope ended their tournament in third place.  Congratulations to all players and coaches, you all did a great job and you made King City proud once again.  Congratulations also goes to Hollister once again as they won both the 9-10 and 10-11 year old divisions.  Watch out next year though, the future looks pretty good for King City!

A memorial service was held last Friday at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds for cowboy Del Nyswonger.  Del passed away on July 2.  The services were attended by many friends and family members and many of them spoke during the service.  My condolences go out to all friend and family members of Del.

Best wishes on a speedy recovery go out to John Nino who had little mishap at a branding last week.   After a quick trip to the hospital and a cast on his ankle, he’s home and doing well.

A big birthday celebration was held last Saturday in honor of Dick and Carmen Vierra.  The party was held at their daughter and son-in-law’s home, Trish and John Maderis’.  According to Vern Scattini, there had to be close to 100 people in attendance.  Not just many friends and family members, but all of the doctors that helped save Dick after his accident several years back were there as well.  Dick turned 80 years young on June 26 while Carmen was “less then 80” on June 20.  Happy birthday to you both, and here’s wishing you many more to come.

Belated birthday wishes go out to Joy and Mathew Flores who both celebrated their birthdays a few weeks ago.  Being busy with all our baseball games, I forgot to mention it earlier, but Happy Birthday anyway guys!

The kids and I headed up to Salinas last Saturday evening to the Christian Country Music Concert produced annually by my parents.  As usual, they featured top-notch entertainment from No. 1 Christian Country recording artists.  Singing were Tommy Brandt from Florida, Mike Hammock from Nacodoches, Texas and the Duo “Branded,” also from Texas.  If you missed it, you missed a great show, but you can still catch Mike next week at the Cowboy Church service at the Salinas Rodeo Grounds on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

Until next week, try to stay cool, and, if you have any news you’d like to share, be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected].
