It sure was hot out here in South County last week; we had 90 degree temperatures over the weekend. I guess it is that time of year.

More birthday wishes go out to people again this week. Brandi Garza and Nessen Schmidt, Jr celebrated birthdays on April 21 and April 25. Happy belated birthday guys! Birthday wishes also go out to Natalie Madson who celebrated her 14th birthday on the 27th.

If you were traveling out in Bitterwater last week and noticed signs posted for a trail ride and wondered what they were for, the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital sponsored its yearly men’s-only trail ride last weekend at the old Rock Springs Ranch on Old Hernandez Road. I don’t know how many men were there but I passed lots of trailers headed up that way last week. I’m sure they had a great time. The women’s ride will be held this weekend at the ranch.

Students from Bitterwater Tully School participated in the San Lorenzo Junior High School track meet last Friday at King City High School. Congratulations to all the students for doing so well. Those who competed included: Edwin Mendoza, Michael Kreibel, Thomas Veysey, Savannah Hoss, Katie Donham, Taylor Jo Hurley, Rachel Diaz, Jeanine and Natalie Madson and Sierra Jo and Brody Sans. Edwin won the shot put event in his division, Natalie won several events, including high point girl for her division, Katie won the 100 yard dash, Savannah won the shot put,. Sierra Jo won the 400-meter and the long jump and Taylor Jo and Brody each placed in the mile against a whole group of seventh- and eighth-graders. Way to go Badgers!

John and Susan Nino branded some of their calves last Saturday at their place at the 72 Ranch. Some of those helping out included J.W. and John Brewen, Kenny, Casey and Colleen Sabin, Jim Bob Wilson and Todd Sans.
