It’s the first week of May and it’s still green in South County.
I can’t remember the last time it was still green on May 1. It is
starting to turn brown in some parts of the county, but it’s time.
I’m ready for some nice, warm weather.

It’s the first week of May and it’s still green in South County. I can’t remember the last time it was still green on May 1. It is starting to turn brown in some parts of the county, but it’s time. I’m ready for some nice, warm weather.

Anniversary wishes go out to Jeff and Jean Schmidt who are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary today. Congratulations, Jeff and Jean, and here’s wishing you many more happy anniversaries.

Ross Rianda branded a few calves last Saturday up on Pacheco Pass. A few of those helping him out included Wyatt Bourdet, Cash Robinson, Brody Sans and J.W. Brewen.

The California High School Rodeo Association, District 4, hosted their final rodeo of the year last Sunday at the Posse Grounds in Salinas. Congratulations to all on a great year. Some of those heading off to the state finals in Bishop this year includes Blane and Blair Strohn, Megan and Kristy Melton, Megan Ford and Dylan Pierce, just to name a few. Some of the Wrangler Junior High kids qualifying for their state finals next weekend in Plymouth include Cheyenne Rey, Averi Hubbel, Taylor Hurley and Brody Sans. Good luck to everyone at their finals.

The Salinas Valley Fair begins next week in King City. The fair opens on Thursday, May 13 and runs through Sunday, May 16. The Country rodeo will take place on Friday, late signups taken the day of, followed by a barrel race and bull riding on Saturday. The livestock market classes take place on Thursday, followed by showmanship on Friday and the auction on Saturday. Be sure to head on over for some Farm Fresh Fun at the Salinas Valley Fair next week.

The inaugural John Peaslee Memorial Ranch Rodeo was held last Saturday at the Posse Grounds in Salinas. Some of those competing included Bret Bonfantini, Sean Smith, Chris Smith, Andy Barrington and Lee Whitney. Congratulations to Lee for winning the all-around championship for the day and to Andy Barrington for winning the cattle sorting.
