Congratulations go out to Shane O’Connor and Allie Palmer, both Bitterwater Tully graduates who were this year’s recipients of the Oswald Scholarship for Bitterwater Tully alumni. The scholarship was set up for graduating seniors who graduated from eighth grade Bitterwater School. Shane was the recipient of the $500 scholarship while Allie was awarded the $250 scholarship.

The King City Softball 14 & Under and 12 & Under Hurricanes participated in a tournament in Sunnyvale a few weeks ago and their placing at the tournament won them a spot in the State tournament in San Diego next month. Bitterwater resident Katie Donham will be traveling down with the 14 & Under team. I’m sure there may be some sort of fundraiser going on to help out with team and travel expenses so if you run across one, be sure to support our King City Hurricanes trip to San Diego. Good luck girls!

Birthday wishes go out to Kanani Barbree and Jeanine Madson who both celebrated birthdays last week. Jeanine celebrated her 13th birthday on the 23rd and was given a surprise party by her aunt and cousins in Reno last weekend. Kanani celebrated with a barbecue at her sister Cynnie’s house last week that had many family members and friends on hand to help her celebrate.

Congratulations go out to Bitterwater residents Jim and Betty Barrington who were honored at the Salinas Valley Fair Appreciation Dinner a few weeks ago. Jim and Betty were awarded the Diamond Award for volunteer service at the fair. The two of them have over 98 years of combined volunteer service at the fair. Thanks for all you do Jim and Betty, it is very much appreciated!

Congratulations also go out to the King City Little League Major Reds who finished their season last Monday night in Salinas. They went farther then most people expected them to in the Tournament of Champions. Unfortunately, they had one tough inning that they couldn’t come back from which resulted in their loss to the Hollister Rockies. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I’m proud to say I’m a King City Little League parent. Our kids play with pride, integrity and sportsmanship. They learn it from their parents and from their coaches. Other teams we’ve played against don’t have the same qualities our kids have and it shows in how they act at the games. Congratulations Reds (and Giants) on another great season, you’ve made your family proud again. All-Star action will begin this weekend in Salinas and Hollister, be sure to give your favorite baseball player a call to see when and where they are playing.

Have a great 4th of July holiday, and if you have any news you’d like to share, be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at
