Celebrations start in South County
Happy June, everyone. I hope you all had a great Memorial Day
holiday. Now that the holiday is over, summer is right around the
corner! Many Hollister schools will be getting out for summer break
this week but King City schools still have a few more weeks left.
Hopefully the summer weather will be upon us soon too. I’ve had
about enough of this cool, windy weather!

Congratulations to all those who will be graduating this week, either from college, high school or eighth grade. Sami O’Connor graduates from Hartnell College on Wednesday evening while Cash Robinson will be graduating from eighth grade on Thursday. There will be lots of celebrations going on this week. Congrats to all of you!

Many South County residents headed down to Parkfield over Memorial Day weekend to participate in the annual Parkfield Ranch Rodeo. Some of those competing from our area included: The Hurley Family, The Sabin Family and the Brewen Family. No one from our area had much luck this year, but they all had a great time anyway.

You know summer is upon us when entries for the San Benito Saddle Horse Show arrive in the mail. Entries for this year’s event close on Friday, June 11. Be sure to get your entries in on time, especially if you want in on the Cattle Sorting event as that one fills up quickly. Entries can be picked up at the horse show office if you haven’t received yours yet. The event has opened up its entries to surrounding counties with a few restrictions so if you think you might be eligible to participate this year, be sure to check out the new rules to see if you qualify.

A few South County schools will be participating in the Pinnacles National Monument’s Science Camp this week. This year the camp, a two-day event, will be held at the RS Guest Ranch (Rock Springs Ranch). Bitterwater Tully students and Jefferson School students will be a few of those participating in the event.

King City High School baseball season has officially ended for the year. Congratulations to Buddy Sans for being named Most Valuable Player on the Junior Varsity team this year. I have to brag just a little on him as I am a proud mom!
